The scheme or the Mission has been implemented for the period of 2015-2022. According to the reports made by the government, 2 lakhs urban poor dwelling in the non-slum areas will be the targeted section. It has also been decided that necessary central assistance will be provided to the Urban Local Bodies and the other agencies who are given the responsibility to implement the mission. The assistance will be made through states and union territories. The necessary assistance will be for:

  • Rehabilitation of existing in-situ slum dwellers who uses the land as their private property.
  • Subsidy on credit link.
  • Partnership based affordable housing.
  • Subsidy on house construction or enhancement for beneficiary led individual.

It has been decided that credit linked subsidy will be implemented as Central Sector Scheme. Whereas, the other facilities will be implemented as Centrally Sponsored Scheme. The project formulation and approval is in the hands of the State. The state will follow the guidelines of the mission and then formulate, approve and implement accordingly for the faster outcome.

The scheme will consist of the primarily economically weaker section and low-income groups. 305 cities of 9 states in India has been identified for this scheme to be generated at the beginning.   • The houses given to the beneficiaries will be provided in the name of the female of the house. Or, if male, then it must be jointly given to a female of the house.
  • The maximum age of the beneficiary needs to be 70 years.
  • Also, the beneficiary under economically weaker section has to be in the income group of less than Rs. 3 lacs per annum. And, for lower income group the annual income need to range between Rs. 3,00,001 to Rs. 6 Lacs.
  • Also, the beneficiaries need to prove that he or she is not having any dwelling place in the name of any of his or her family member.
  • The government has approved to provide a subsidized interest rate of 6.5% on housing loans for a period of 20 years.
  • Also, the technology used for construction has been sanctioned to be eco-friendly.
  • The selection of floors can be made on the basis of priority preference that includes – old person and differently abled people.

The government has approved a sum of Rs. 439.22 billion for the construction of 6,83,724 houses. Under the scheme of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana or the Housing for All (Urban), commitment from the Central Government has been made of Rs. 100.50 billion by April 2016.
