The central government is planning to launch Right to the Light program which is engineered by Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B). This program aims to offer solar lamps for reading purposes for school going children. This scheme was already implemented successfully in five states. The initiative of this program is targeting the students who are located in the most educationally backward blocks, homes which still uses kerosene and who are focused in tribal pockets. This programme will be launched soon and it is same as that of UP government's own schemes in which BPL houses are provided with solar power packs comprising two lamps of 3 watts, one lamp of 5 watts as well as DC ceiling fan and mobile charging point which can able to operate up to 8 hours a day. This scheme will be launched soon with the help of Piyush Goyal's MNRE. To avail this cost, the beneficiary students must pay for getting solar lamp while MNRE will bear rest of the cost.

Overview Of Right To Light Scheme

The central government of India is planning to introduce a new program known as 'Right to Light Scheme' program for school students of Uttar Pradesh. Right to Light program declares that every school student will obtain solar power light to study during night time. This scheme has been started already in five states in the country including Assam, Jharkhand, Orissa, and Bihar along with Uttar Pradesh. This program will be implemented soon in the Uttar Pradesh state. The scheme has started already in some of the Eastern States in the country.

Under this scheme, the government will offer solar lamps for the sake of reading purpose for school going students all over the state. This upcoming scheme will be implemented with the aid of Piyush Goyal's ministry of new & renewable energy (MNRE). The scheme will target the houses which are still using kerosene. The scheme will cater to 1.03 crore students in 296 development blocks in Uttar Pradesh where electricity is less than 50 percent.

Under this scheme, the beneficiary student has to pay some of the cost for the lamp whereas the rest of the amount will be borne by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). The central government has planned to distribute approximately 1 crore solar bulbs for students who fall under the category of BPL. However, they will distribute the lamps for those houses where basic amenities were not reached. IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Bombay plays a vital role in this scheme as the technical department and engineers have joined their hands with central government to launch the scheme.

  • Applicant can also visit regional electricity board

  • The program will be launched in the state of Uttar Pradesh. This scheme has started already in some of the eastern states like Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam, and Orissa.
